Finding Fiddlers Green
Finding Fiddlers Green
Fiddlers Green is a new body of work that continues my exploration of grief, all photographs were taken during the gloaming hour when the light grown dim, and it is neither day nor night. This is a liminal time, a magical time of half-light, a time of fairies and other worlds. At this time the veil grows thin If you listen carefully, you can hear the fiddle playing and the distant sound of laughter on the wind. Fiddlers Green is one of many descriptions of The Other Place and it is in these places I search for my absent sibling. This project is not in its final form yet. I have chosen to share with a you a number of images that have been successful recently as part of its progression.
The Gloaming
Gloaming - A poetic word for "twilight," or the time of day immediately after the sun sets, is gloaming. The best thing about summer evenings is looking for twinkling fireflies in the gloaming.
That romantic time of day when the light has mostly faded but it's not quite dark yet? You can call that the gloaming. This is a word with a strong Scottish heritage, adopted from Scottish dialect during the Middle Ages and rooted in the Old English word for "twilight," glōm.
Images from The Gloaming series have successfully been short list for RPS 165 and was also included in The Night Moods Book, a Shutter Hub Editions as well as being a Semifinalist in the Head On Photo Festival in Australia.
